Sexism In Othello Analysis - 846 Words
Othello explores the concepts of manipulation and evil through Iago, the character that is the source of evil in the play, but when analyzed closely, the reader can see that it not only is Iago the subject of evil, but Desdemona and Othello are too. Othello reinforces racism and sexism in a very subtle way; while some argue that Shakespeare undermines the racist and sexist ideas imposed on the characters by calling attention to the racism and sexism in the times, the play seems to disprove this. Shakespeare uses hate in a passive way so that the reader barely notices that they begin to associate a negative connotation with race and sex. By associating Desdemona with sinning and Othello with evil, the text progresses and becomes hatefulâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦By tying Othelloââ¬â¢s new evil nature with a woman, the play has again reinforces the stereotype that sinful women purposefully hurt men. This idea that women will cause men to become evil, forcing the reader into the belief that women should be stripped of sexual power, because they will use it to manipulate men. By classifying women in that way, the play supports the idea that women are manipulative beings that the viewer should hate. The play continues to support the idea of white male superiority by using Othello and the word ââ¬Å"hateâ⬠together. While Iago is ranting about Othello giving the lieutenancy to Cassio, he repeatedly says, ââ¬Å"I hate the moorâ⬠(1.3.409,429). By saying these words over and over again, the reader associates the racist slur with this overwhelming feeling of hate. The two words, as they appear together frequently, begin to form a connection in the readers mind. That subtle connection reinforces the underlying racism in the play. In a pivotal scene, Othello uses the word hate to say that Desdemonaââ¬â¢s infidelity is of ââ¬Å"hateâ⬠(3.3.509). While it shows the hate towards women, it also reflects on the idea that while the word hate used to be used about Othello, now it is being used by him towards women. This clear change in Othello shows a transformation in the play, and forces the reader to not trust him anymore. When Othello uses this word, the reader sees a clear change in his personality, and does not see him as the protagonist anymore, as they knowShow MoreRelatedEssay about A Feminist Analysis of Othello1741 Words à |à 7 PagesA Feminist Analysis of Othelloà à In William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s tragic play Othello there are numerous instances of obvious sexism aimed at the three women in the drama -- Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca ââ¬â and aimed at womankind generally. Marketing Plan For Whole Foods Essay - 1319 Words
Thirty six years ago John Mackey started a grocery store based on his vision of a business that provides customers only natural foods. Based on a simple but effective business model, Whole Foods has grown to a position of market leadership that is now being challenged by low-cost organic sellers. According to Feldman (as cited in Giammona, 2015) ââ¬Å"Whole Foods continues to face challenges from competitors going after organic and natural foods more aggressivelyâ⬠(para. 4). The company s differentiation edge against lower-cost competitors is fading as competitors have been successfully emulating the Whole Foods experience (Sharma,2015).Furthermore, Wahba (2016) noted that the company s Whole Paycheck reputation is hurting sales and driving customers away to other low-priced organic food competitors. Whole Foods needs to reduce prices due to the new competitive landscape. Since the grocery industry runs on very low profit margins, in order to reduce prices the company needs to reduce costs. Whole Foods can leverage its size along with the company s value proposition of working with local farmers to develop more efficient collaborative networks. Guanlong Tyrannosaur Facts and Figures
Guanlong Tyrannosaur Facts and Figures Name: Guanlong (Chinese for crown dragon); pronounced GWON-long Habitat: Woodlands of Asia Historical Period: Late Jurassic (160 million years ago) Size and Weight: About 10 feet long and 100-200 pounds Diet: Meat Distinguishing Characteristics: Small size; large crest on head; possibly feathers About Guanlong One of the earliest tyrannosaurs yet to be discovered, Guanlong (the name, crown dragon, alludes to this meat-eaters prominent crest) roamed eastern Asia during the late Jurassic period. Like other early theropods - such as Eoraptor and Dilong - Guanlong was nothing special in terms of size, only a fraction as large as Tyrannosaurus Rex (which lived about 90 million years later). This points to a common theme in evolution, the development of plus-sized animals from small progenitors. How do paleontologists know that Guanlong was a tyrannosaur? Clearly, this dinosaurs crest - not to mention its fairly long arms and (possibly) its coat of feathers - make it an ill-fitting match with the classic tyrannosaurs of the late Cretaceous period. The giveaway is the characteristic shape of Guanlongs teeth and pelvis, which point to its being a basal (i.e., early) member of the tyrannosaur family. Guanlong itself appears to have descended from earlier, smaller theropods known as coelurosaurs, the most prominent genus of which was Coelurus. Oddly, when Guanlong was discovered, in Chinas Shishugou formation, the paleontologists from George Washington University found two specimens lying on top of one another - one surmised to be about 12 years old, and the other about 7. Whats weird is that, as far as researchers can tell, the dinosaurs didnââ¬â¢t die at the same time, and theres no sign of a struggle - so how did they wind up buried together? Its still a tantalizing paleontological mystery.

Each requires registration, but users can navigate through that by clicking on the image ins tead of registering. Only then can users access materials that are relevant to each area.à Nurse Recruiter isnââ¬â¢t as approachable or user-friendly as some of the other nurse job boards. Users need to work a bit harder than necessary to find content. But if the job search is the only reason for the visit, it fits the bill.HealtheCareers Healthcare Industry Job Board Caters to Nurses, Tooà Healthecareersà isnââ¬â¢t a nurse-specific, it caters to healthcare in general, but itââ¬â¢s a large resource for nursing jobs. One of those is a link to jobs, which lets users get right down to business. But other tabs include an overall resources link to a summary of new topics, and links to newsletters, articles, and blog posts separately.à The starred rating box is different from the other job boards. Medical School Essays Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Medical School Essays - Essay Example I then decided to become a doctor and to concentrate on medical research. Moreover, I have learned to value my education more, and this premium is reflected in the numerous academic accolades and scholarships that I have received during the last four years of my education. My parents are Mexican immigrants; while poor, they have lofty ambitions for their children. Because of our financial constraints, I have learned to live up to the responsibility of supporting them financially. I am able to provide my family with strength and inspiration because of my doggedness in obtaining a medical degree despite our poverty. They have also been edified by my example of struggling to learn the English language, and they too have taken courage to learn the language. I grew up in a neighborhood that was distinguished by poverty, with predominantly blue-collar workers. Because majority of residents were minimum wage earners, the neighborhood was characterized by crime and violence. I have been exposed to communities that lived in dire poverty, and I have witnessed their need for decent healthcare. This is also one of my motivators in pursuing a medical degree. This has developed in me compassion for the poor, and an authentic desire to help. My ethnic heritage has not hindered my social growth as a whole, but it had in the past affected my ambition to further my education financially. But my familyââ¬â¢s difficult financial circumstances and my chance to witness poverty in the immediate community has given me all the more reason to work hard towards obtaining a medical degree. Perhaps, through my example, my family and my neighborhood will realize that poverty is not a reason for ignorance and for not going after your dreams. While it may be i ronic, I have taken inspiration from all these difficult circumstances that I grew up in. My
